UCT coatings is home to the largest automated coatings line in North America. Within their 45,000 square foot facility, UCT’s plating line holds thousands of gallons of all the chemistry needed for their different coatings. This massive quantity is possible thanks to the large 750-gallon tanks that UCT uses in their plating line. These tanks allow UCT to coat a larger quantity of parts at a time as well as providing them with the means to coat larger parts. With such a massive production line, UCT’s customer base is vast and diverse spanning numerous different parts within various industries.
The computerized plating system works by programming a specific process for each part that gets run through. These programs are designed specifically for their part and allow for the proper amount of time at each station. Thanks to the automation aspect of it, an employee no longer needs to monitor the plating line to move racks of parts to the next station. Preregistered programs such as these, allow UCT to achieve a consistent and adequate coated surface to the parts for their customers every time.
Since the coating programs for different jobs are stored and activated within this computerized system, employees can access a log of the past week’s jobs. This log shows the chemical levels in each of the baths at the time of coating as well as how long and when each part was in each specific part of the process. Having a log such as this allows UCT full management over their process. If there were ever quality issues with the coating on a specific part, this log would allow UCT’s Production Team and Quality Management Team to comb through the data to see what went wrong and what they need to change now and in the future.
Another feature of this industry leading plating line is the active testing and adjustment of the chemistry levels for UCT’s electroless Nickel coating. The coatings line has a series of pumps that test levels of certain chemicals and once the level hits a certain point the pump will add more. This constant automatic system of checks and balance ensures that everything is running as smoothly as possible and that the coating will be consistent with every part. With these checks going on constantly, again, an employee does not need to be checking and adjusting the levels, which provides them with more time for other plant duties and objectives.
UCT’s commitment to consistently producing quality products for their customers has allowed them to be the premier Nickel Boron company.
